Facts

  • The top of the building is staggered, with 3 steps on each of the two narrow sides.
  • In front of the entrance, the newer structure is recessed behind the Otis Building's facade, forming a hollowed-out space where the contrasting old and new parts are visible together.
  • A small skybridge connects the building to the Northern Trust Bank to the south.
  • The first 4 stories incorporate the façade of the demolished Otis Building. This was done to harmonize with the classical architecture of LaSalle Street, on the theory that most pedestrians do not look higher than the fourth level.
  • This is the tallest building in Chicago designed by Canadian architects.
  • A "zipper" runs down the center of the front facade, formed by a projecting window bay from floors 37 to 19 and a 2-story recessed bay below that.
  • The facade is a dark cobalt blue with a decorative bright green stripe lining the corners.
