Facts

  • The hotel replaces the 25-story McCormick Inn, which was located east of the site by Lake Shore Drive and demolished to make room for the convention center's expansion.
  • A large plaza to the south features geometric landscaping and dynamic fountains, with ornamental pylons and giant stone spheres.
  • In 2001 a skybridge was built connecting the hotel with a new conference center across Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive to the west.
  • This was the tallest building in the Near South Side until 2005, when it was surpassed by Sky55.
  • This is the largest hotel in Chicago south of 8th Street, with 800 guest rooms; also the tallest building between the South Loop and Hyde Park.
  • Connected to McCormick Place, one of the world's largest convention centers. The hotel was built alongside the newest and largest of the center's halls, and was designed by the same architects.
