Facts

  • In 1986 two fires destroyed a large portion of the library, rendering the building unusable.
  • Mayor Tom Bradley and ARCO's Lodwrick Cook launched a campaign to fund the library's refurbishing which included adding a new wing (named after Bradley) that opened in 1993.
  • The landscaped area around the library which includes several beautiful fountains is called the Maguire Gardens, named after Maguire-Thomas Partners who invested a lot of money into the property.
  • The library was added to the National Register of Historical Places on December 18, 1970 for its architectural significance.
