Facts

  • This was Calgary's second city hall, replacing the original wooden structure built in 1885 on the same site. It was demolished in 1911.
  • As the city grew Calgary Municipal Building was built next door, however the mayor's office is still here.
  • The tower clock, made by Seth Thomas Clock Co., was bought in 1911 for $3,657.
  • The architectural firm of Dodd & Hopkins was dismissed in December 1909 and replaced by Gilbert and Hodgson, who finished the building.
