  • The western (Greenwich Street) side was constructed in 1898. One floor was added (plus a four story tower in the center) by Ludlow & Peabody in 1917-1920.
  • The building is in the Hellenic Renaissance style, unique for a New York skyscraper. The only other building in the United States in this style is said to be the Layton Art Gallery in Milwaukee, designed by the Audsley firm in 1888.
