  • The architectural style is of the late Georgian Revival with a touch of Italian Renaissance.
  • From 1927-2009 the room count went from 320 to 313 to 168.
  • Famous entertainers the hotel hosted included Tommy Dorsey, Louis Armstrong, Lawrence Welk, Elvis Presley, and the Rolling Stones.
  • Extensive renovations will create a high-end boutique hotel, downsizing it from 313 rooms to about 200.
  • The Georgia played host to royalty in 1927, when the Prince of Wales visited (he later went on to become King Edward VIII).
  • Plans for a 52-storey tower, integrated with the hotel and known as 687 Howe, were scrapped by local developer Allied Holdings in 2005.
  • Its 12 storeys and 320 rooms made it the second largest hotel in Vancouver when it was built.
  • In 1959, actor Errol Flynn went on a week-long drinking binge in the hotel before dying in a nearby West End apartment.
  • City's first hotel to have bathrooms for every room.
  • A proposal by financier Peter Wall to erect a 60-story tower on this property was scrapped.
  • Rocky Marciano and Muhammad Ali stayed here.
  • In late 2006 it was rumoured that the hotel will be managed by W Hotels, when it reopens in time for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

  • When singer Nat King Cole stayed at the hotel in the early 1950s, it was the first time a black person was allowed to book a room in any of the major hotels downtown.
  • On January 2, 2007, the hotel closed its doors for three years in preparation for major renovations.
  • Famous Hollywood royalty guests included: Jayne Mansfield, Frank Sinatra, John Wayne, Bob Hope, Marlene Dietrich, Ginger Rogers, Sir Laurence Olivier, Katherine Hepburn, Bette Davis, and Bing Crosby.
  • Designated a Heritage Building in 1998.
