  • Today's cathedral is the third one and opened on June 19, 1853. The first was constructed in 1797 and the second one burned to the ground in 1847.
  • The bell tower and spire, added between 1865-70, made St. James' the tallest church in North America (surpassed by St. Patrick's Cathedral in 1879).
  • St. James' is currently the second tallest church in Canada after Oratoire St. Joseph in Montreal.
  • St. James' is the tallest Anglican church outside of England, 3rd tallest in the world after Salisbury Cathedral and Norwich Cathedral.
