Facts

  • It measures 124 meters in length, 60 in width, with a nave height of 34 meters.
  • The building was finally completed in 1929 according to Parler's plans.
  • St. Vitus Cathedral was initiated by Emporer Charles IV under the direction of master Matthias of Arras. He was succeeded upon his death by Peter Parler.
  • By the time work stopped in 1420 due to the Hussite Wars, work had been completed on the choir and the lower story of the main tower.
  • The tower was constructed in Gothic style with elements of Renaissance and Baroque design.
