Facts

  • The Berliner Fernsehturm is member of the World Federation of Great Towers.
  • In approximately 40 seconds, the elevators of the Berlin Television Tower bring you up to a height of about 200 meters.
  • Since its opening in October 1969 the Berlin Television Tower has attracted almost 37 million visitors from all over the world.
  • Media giant Leo Kirch bought two of the lower floors in order to open a media center. The combination of modern material with a sixties design have given the Berlin TV-tower a totally new face. On May 1st, 1994 the tower re-opened amid a great public celebration.
  • During a six-months closing of the tower, the new KONE elevators with top speed of six meters per second were installed, while all the floors were renovated and refurbished to accommodate visitor traffic.
  • Since 1993, the tower which is protected as a landmark has undergone restoration in various stages. Firstly, the inner tower shaft was renovated and broadcast equipment of the various TV-stations was updated.
