Facts

  • This building was planned in 1947 as the first high-rise building in inner Copenhagen.
  • Was featured as the temporary home of the villains in the 1969 film "Olsen Banden på spanden".
  • The inspiration for this building came from Le Corbusier. The architects planned another building across the river but it was never built.
  • This building was originally a hotel (called "Hotel Europa") and was converted into offices before being converted back to hotel use in May 2005.
  • The youth hostel has 1020 beds in 4-bed, 8-bed or 10-bed dormitories.
  • In the fall of 2005 kitchen and washing facilities will open in the basement.
  • It is the only high-raise among DANHOSTEL's almost 100 youth hostels in Denmark.
  • It is Europe's biggest hostel in a metropolitan city area.
  • It is a five-star youth hostel with an internet café, a lounge, bath and wc in every room.
  • It's the second tallest youth hostel in Europe after Riviera in Warsaw.
  • It is the third tallest youth hostel in the world.
  • Tallest high-rise building in Denmark from 1955 to 1958; surpassed by Radisson SAS Falconer Hotel in Frederiksberg. (The Kongens Bryghus would have taken this rank at its completion in 1957, except that it was only a silo until 1997).
