Facts

  • Tallest building In Adelaide from 1973-87.
  • This building is sometimes referred to by locals as 'The Black Stump'.
  • The interior as well as the foyer of the building were refurbished in the 1980s.
  • The ten meter antenna on the roof, which was attached in 1980, was upgraded with digital transmitters in 2003 and extended in height by one meter.
  • In 2007, the building received a redevelopment, in which the most noticeable change was the construction of two frameless glass cubes at the entrance of the building.
  • The building's 2007 redevelopment was awarded the Royal Australian Institute of Architects Commercial Architecture Award of Commendation.
  • The two glass cubes provide retail space which succesfully activates the zone in front of the tower and serves to flank the new entrance and foyer.
  • This was the tallest building built in Adelaide during the 1970s.
  • The building epitomises the philosophies of the International style/ Modern movement school of architecture, with its curtain wall glass façade, extruded form, expressed structural grid and plaza at the base.
