Facts

  • Designed in 1959 with an unusual shape for that time, the Sheraton Hotel was Istanbul's first real skyscraper. The architect of the building avoided perpendicular forms and used angles of 30 and 60 degrees instead. The project was chosen at the end of an international competition in which the famous German expressionist architect Rolf Gutbrod took part as a jury member.
  • The Intercontinental Hotel was originally built as Sheraton Istanbul.
