  • The Grand Bazaar is the world's largest covered building, with over 75 acres of covered area, compared to Washington DC's Pentagon (34 acres) and the Giza Pyramid in Egypt (13 acres).
  • It was built during the reign of Sultan Mehmed II "The Conqueror", the Ottoman emperor who took Constantinople (Istanbul) on May 29th, 1453, and made it the new capital city of the Ottoman Empire.
