  • Built in the Soviet times as an hotel targeted for foreign tourists, the hotel still remains a prime location in the city from travelers outside of Russia.
  • The building name "Intourist" is a short version of "Inostrannii Tourist", which translates as "Foreign Tourist".
  • Part of the countrywide chain of hotels "Intourist" constructed by the Soviet government.
  • The concrete building was repainted into different shades of blue and reconstructed in 2003, renamed into Congress-Hotel Intourist from its former name, Intourist.
  • In June 2007, the hotel hosted Russian President Vladimir Putin, along with a number of leaders from former countries of the USSR as well as Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez.
