Facts

  • All the lift-cores and staircases are located on the outside of the building (as against central-core positions) so that they receive natural light and ventilation.
  • At the ground level, the entrance area (including the lift lobby that leads to the plaza) is open to te outside and is naturally ventilated. Precast and pretiled spandrel panels project beyond the edge of each floor to give sun-shading to the glazing.
  • The top of the tower is pitched as an abstraction of the traditional Malay house form.
  • Traversing the void, the garden emerges and then ascends diagonally, on the opposite of the tower, to the roof.
  • IBM Plaza has a hybrid form. The overall massing of the building configuration consists of an office tower linked by a culvilinear bridge to a two-storey crescent-shaped lower block, housing a restaurant and a food court.
  • In this twenty-four storey tower, the principal idea explored was that of vertical landscaping in the form of a diagonal garden that climbs one side of the building to the fourteenth storey, where a landscaped void-deck occurs.
  • The typical floor plan is orientated towards the north-south axis in relation to the sun's path. The service-cores (lifts, stairs, and toilets) are located on the hot sides of the tower (i.e. the east and west sides) - they provide shading.
