  • Azadi Monument was completed in 1971 to commemorate the 2,500th anniversary of the Persian Empire.
  • Included in the building is a cultural centre with a library, a museum and several art galleries.
  • Azadi Tower is in fact a great Islamic triumphal arch, and is clad in white marble.
  • Originally called Shahyad Tower, after the Islamic revolution the name has been changed to Azadi Tower, meaning, Freedom Tower.
  • The monument acts as a grandiose gateway to the Iranian capital, and is surrounded by a large plaza.
