Facts

  • A record breaking 13-hour concrete pour, the longest single concrete pour in Durban’s history and one of the largest in South Africa, was performed on this contract.
  • This building includes 27 889 m² of A-grade office space, 2 348m² of ground floor shops, and an adjacent four-storey parking garage.
  • Through a process of pre-qualification and tender, 3G Construction, a joint venture between Group Five Stevenson and Grinaker Building, were appointed.
  • Mature 15m high palms were transported and planted in West Street at the entrance to the building.
  • The site bounded by West, Smith and Gardiner Streets required the demolition of existing buildings with one being dramatically imploded.
  • This is the last major high-rise office block to be built in Durban.
  • The project was awarded first place for contracts in excess of US$12 million in the Building Industries Federation in South Africa’s (BIFSA’s) national safety competition. It also achieved a Building Industry five-star grading for safety on site.
