Facts

  • Proposed in the mid-1980's for a half-block lot on the north side of Adams Street. The former Fair Store building, at that time a modernized Montgomery Wards department store, was demolished to make way for this.
  • The design called for a square tower with slightly projecting corner sections, and a series of 11 stacked atriums inside.
  • This was the first of 2 plans for the site with the same name, both designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill. The second Dearborn Center design was taller and more flamboyant.
