Facts

  • The London Millennium Tower was commissioned in 1996 for the site of the former Baltic Exchange, which was damaged beyond repair by an IRA bomb in 1992.
  • The project faced opposition for being totally out-of-scale with the City of London, and a new design was submitted in its place. This eventually became 30 St Mary Axe:30 St Mary Axe], also designed by Foster and Partners.
