Facts

  • For many years it was both the tallest and most lavish public structure in Kansas.
  • Although listed on the Kansas Register of Historic Places, the Allis Hotel stood vacant for over 25 years. Bought by the city in 1993, no developers could be found to buy it and the decision was made by the city council in 1994 to have it demolished. Despite efforts to save it, this was accomplished on December 22, 1996.
  • The Allis Hotel was modeled after the Waldorf=Astoria in New York City.
