  • Actress Carole Lombard spent her last night here (15 January 1942) before dying in a plane crash outside Las Vegas the next day.
  • Once the grandest hotel in Indianapolis, the Claypool Hotel was damaged by a large fire on 23 June 1967. The building closed and was razed two years later.
  • Site currently occupied by the Embassy Suites Indianapolis Downtown and Claypool Court Retail Center.
  • Fire Insurance maps indicate this building was 116 feet to the main roof, not including the penthouse.
