Facts

  • The last high-rise building in Indianapolis demolished in the 20th Century.
  • Standing for only 44 years, the Essex House Apartments had the shortest lifespan of any high-rise building in Indianapolis.
  • A five-year variance was granted to allow for a surface parking lot in hope of future residential development. The variance was renewed up until 2007 when it was finally denied. A Marion County Superior Court judge ultimately ruled in favor of the property owners to allow for the parking lot.
