Facts

  • The developers were granted a variance to build a tower of up to 715 feet (including a 65 foot lighted tower) by the Denver Planning Board.
  • This proposal generated considerable controversy because it is located just outside the Central Business District, and is subject to strict height limits meant to preserve views of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.
  • The tower and renovation plan never came to fruition. A new proposal by Donald Trump in early 2006 called Trump Tower Denver will capitalize on the zoning that allows a very tall building on this site.
  • The developers intended to save the neighboring El Jebel Masonic Lodge and incorporate it into the design of the new tower.
  • It was to have been located on the site of the El Jebel Shrine parking lot, but the developers were never able to get the project underway.
