Facts

  • The site of 168 Fenchurch Street was formerly occuplied by Limebank House, which at 93m (305ft) was the tallest building to have been demolished in London at the time.
  • 168 Fenchurch Street was proposed by Churchill Securities for a site owned by Marks & Spencers, the retail group. A 9-storey office building with retail at street level, under construction when Churchill submitted their application, was completed during 2003 on the site.
  • Despite the site owners refusing to sell to Churchill, the scheme was reviewed by the Corporation of London on 11th September 2002, and approval had been recommended both by the Greater London Authority and the Corporation of London planning department. The application was finally withdrawn on 22nd September 2003.
