pinpoint location (ESN 51038 )

The pinpoint location of a structure or geographical area is the optimal point of balance within its boundary or footprint outline. This is normally the geometric barycenter, where all lines bisecting the shape intersect. However, when the barycenter falls outside the boundary of the object being pinpointed, the pinpoint must go on the most reasonable point of balance within the outline. In the case of a building with a tower set back from a low podium, the pinpoint may go in the barycenter of the tower's footprint rather than the center of its base footprint.

The most central balancing point within a boundary or footprint outline; normally its geometric barycenter.
