zone (ESN 42295 )

A zone is a commonly recognized area which is geographically continuous but is not an official district of its city. Zones are usually smaller units than districts, but they may overlap more than one district. A zone may also be a "composite complex", where a single development consists of separate and distinct groups. Such a project must be located in a continuous, definable geographical area to constitute a zone. Zones can be: a) distinct urban areas which straddle city boundaries; b) large-scale developments which consist of multiple projects; c) business districts or other distinct groupings in cities where official neighborhoods do not exist; d) unofficial but commonly recognized sub-neighborhoods of distinct character; e) large medical or educational centers consisting of multiple separate institutions; f) special areas of common activity within a business district.

An unofficial but commonly recognized urban district.
