Diese Zusammenstellung basiert auf aktuellem Datenmaterial über Gebäude und legt Datenstandards des Emporis Standards Committee (ESC) zugrunde. Sie ist die mit Abstand verläßlichste Publikation ihrer Art und wird ständig auf Aktualität sowie Richtigkeit überprüft. Es werden ausschließlich Hochhäuser erfasst, die ihre volle Höhe erreicht haben (dies schließt Bauten ein, die zur Zeit im Bau sind oder wo die Errichtung unterbrochen wurde). Bei der Einbeziehung von Gebäuden wird nur die jeweilige strukturelle Höhe gezählt. Fernsehtürme, Masten oder andere Gebäudetypen werden nicht berücksichtigt.
