Valencia, the third most important city in Spain, is situated halfway down the eastern coast of the country. Founded by the Romans in 138 B.C. and once capital of its own kingdom, Valencia was the economic and cultural capital of the Mediterranean in the 14th and 15th centuries. Today it is the capital of Valencian province and Valencian community autonomous region.

Valencia has a rich heritage, with wealth of architecture new and old, and an atmospheric old town which is one of the largest remaining historical centres in Europe. City of cultural and commercial prestige, Valencia is an active industrial and economic centre at the present day, and important trade fairs confirm its position as one of the most dynamic cities in Spain.
