About St. Paul

St. Paul is the capital of Minnesota and sits on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. The smaller twin in the "Twin Cities" moniker, the larger twin, Minneapolis, borders St. Paul on the west. The city is also the seat of Ramsey County, the smallest in the state of Minnesota. St. Paul's original name was Pig's Eye Landing until 1841 when it was renamed by French priest Reverend Lucien Galtier after his favorite saint. In 1849, Minnesota was recognized as a territory and St. Paul was recognized as its capital. In 1854, St. Paul was officially incorporated as a city.
St. Paul maintains active sister city relationships with Changsha, China, Ciudad Romero, El Salvador, Neuss, Germany, Hadera and Tiberias, Israel, Modena, Italy, Nagasaki, Japan, Culiacán and Manzanillo, Mexico, Novosibirsk, Russia, and Lawaaikamp, South Africa.
