Originally setted in 1891 by French and Scottish families, Spruce Grove was established as a local center of supplies west of Edmonton. It has grown through the years gaining status as a village in 1955, a town in 1971 and finally as Alberta's 16th city in 1986. Today, as a suburb of Edmonton, it is one of western Canada's fastest growing municipalities.
