About Québec City
One of the oldest cities in North America, and one of the most beautiful as well. Quebec City is the second-largest French speaking city in Canada. It is located on the St. Lawrence River near the point where the river widens in its approach to the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
The city is famous for the historic district on Cap Diamant, built around the elegant Chateau Frontenac. This "old city" was the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in North America.
Besides its exceptionally well preserved old quarters the city has plenty of skyscrapers, primarily in the area west of the old city, known to locals as the "Cité Administrative". The Parliament Building (Assemblée Nationale) and many agencies of the provincial government are located here.
The brutalist style is particularly well represented among the residential skyscrapers.
