About New Tecumseth

Originally founed as a Township in 1821 (comprising the communities of Alliston, Beeton, and Tottenham) and named for the Shawnee Indian Chief who fought and died for the British in the War of 1812, Tecumseth was restructured as a Town in 1991 and given a "New" prefix to reflect this change.
