About Lansing
Founded by a whim of the state in 1847, Lansing, Michigan is the capital city of the state of Michigan. The city was actually settled in 1837 by pioneering New Yorkers, but the town remained nothing but an outpost until it was chosen as the capital of the State of Michigan 10 years later. It is an industrial city situated along the banks of the Grand and Red Cedar rivers. Lansing is a large car-making city and was the home of Ransom E. Olds, founder of Oldsmobile until it was phased out in 2004. Lansing was the birthplace of the first mass production of the American automobile. Olds later moved his work to Detroit where Ford revolutionized the automobile.
