Kunshan, a city at once old and young, has a history of over 2,400 years-if reckoned from the days when King Shoumeng of the Kingdom of Wu built town here for raising deer and for hunting. In the 1980s of the 20th century, the city became one of the country's coastal areas opening to the outside world and, consequently, its features, both urban and rural, have since undergone changes with each passing day.
Situated between Shanghai and Suzhou, Kunshan City is blessed with advantageous geographical position. Especially, transport is easily accessible, with the Beijing-Shanghai Railway, the No. 312 State Highway and Shanghai-Nanjing Highway all pass bey the city proper, while the Wusong and Lou Rivers flow in on their way to the east.
