About Cardiff
Cardiff is the capital and largest city of Wales. Humans have inhabited the site of Cardiff since prehistory, but the history of the city begins with the Roman Invasion of Britain in 43AD; Cardiff takes its name from the Roman Emperor Aulus Didius, Caer Didi meaning 'Fort of Didius'.
Today, Cardiff is a dynamic city, and lays claim to being Europe's youngest capital. It is the centre of a proud nation of people and boasts many historic landmarks, including a beautiful Civic Centre. The most unusual landmark is Cardiff Castle, a 2,000-year-old monument in the heart of the city, while the modern skyline is dominated by the Millennium Stadium, a huge sporting cathedral with a retractable roof.
Cardiff has few high-rise buildings, but a large-scale regeneration of the Cardiff Bay area is underway and may bring some tall new landmarks to the city skyline.
