Despite being a component of one of the largest conurbations in the United Kingdom, Bradford retains a small-town feel. Set amongst spectacular countryside, Bradford is a city built on the wool and textile trade. Once known as the wool capital of the world, Bradford's rich history can still be seen in the architecture of the city from the grand Italianate City Hall and Wool Exchange to the city's historic merchant quarter with its famous street sculptures and Design Exchange.

Due mainly to the dominance of the wool and textile trades, there are few high-rise buildings in the city. The skyline is still dominated by the beautiful City Hall and the tall chimneys of the Victorian factories upon which the city's economy was built.
