About Banff

Banff, Alberta derived its name from Banffshire, Scotland. At 1,384 meters, it is the highest town in Canada and is located in the nation's first National Park (bearing the same name) in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. It is considered one of the most beautiful resort towns in Canada, if not the world.

General Manager of the Canadian Pacific Railway William Van Horne brought tourism to the area with the construction of a hotel at the juncture of the Bow and Spray rivers in 1888. Today the historic Banff Springs Hotel stands on that site as the centerpiece for an annual area tourist count exceeding four million travellers.
