Temple lies in central Texas, about 35 miles south of Waco. Situated in a cotton and grain area, it is also home to many industries, including manufacture of steel and aluminum products and farm machinery, as well as being a hospital center due to its climate. Temple was founded in 1881 by the Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe Railroad, and was named for its chief construction engineer B. M. Temple.
