The largest suburb in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area, Bloomington is also the fifth-largest city in Minnesota. The northern boundary of the city directly abuts Interstate 494, the cities of Edina and Richfield , and the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. All of the city's high-rise buildings are close to this major highway, as is the Mall of America, the world's second-largest shopping center. Eden Prairie is located just to the west, and the scenic Minnesota River with its National Wildlife Refuge defines the southern and eastern borders.
