The capital of Argentina, and one of the largest cities in the world. Buenos Aires is located across from Uruguay on the 100-mile wide River Plate, near the Atlantic coast. It is one of the most prosperous cities in South America, and it abounds with parks, wide boulevards, and historic architecture. The Avenida 9 de Julio which cuts across the center is one of the widest streets anywhere, and the scenic Avenida de Mayo is like a Parisian boulevard with its graceful old buildings. The city has one of the highest skyscraper counts anywhere, with highrise buildings spread as far as the horizon. Two of the most famous are the striking art-deco Edificio Kavanagh , and the gothic Palacio Barolo with its high beacon tower. Emporis currently includes a complete listing of the city's highrise buildings in 2 large districts: Downtown (all of Monserrat and San Nicolás); and Palermo and Recoleta (the whole area bounded by Avenidas Santa Fe, Pueyrredón, Bullrich, and the Rio de la Plata). Every building in these areas with 12+ floors can be found here.
