Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh and its main commercial centre. It is situated on the banks of the river Buriganga. The city has several well planned modern sections and some excellent modern architecture. There are plenty of highirise buildings in the city. For skyscraper enthusiasts it may be of interest to know that the famous civil engineer Fazlur Rahman Khan was born in Dhaka. Khan's famous works include Chicago's John Hancock Center (1970), Sears Tower (1973) and One Shell Plaza in Houston. Dhaka city is also home to one of the most famous works of architect Louis Kahn - the Sher e Bangla Nagar capitol complex.
