Facts

  • RBC Centura Bank, a subsidiary of Toronto-based Royal Bank of Canada, announced plans to move its US headquarters from Rocky Mount to Raleigh in August, 2005.
  • Several alternatives for the building's site and size were considered until plans were firmed up in late 2005.
  • The building will include shops at street level with condominiums or apartments closer to the top.
  • This site was home to the Commercial National Bank Building as well as the never-built First Citizens Bank Building.
  • This is the tallest building in North Carolina outside Charlotte surpassing the 100 North Main Street in Winston-Salem.
  • In March 2006, the developer submitted plans to the city for a 31-story alternative that could make it the tallest building in downtown Raleigh.
  • The first floor will contain retail and a RBC Centura branch bank, floors 2-8 will contain parking, floors 9-18 will contain office space, floor 19 would be a structural transfer floor and floors 20-29 will contain condominium units.
  • The March 2006 proposal includes about 290,000 square feet of office space, 17,000 square feet of retail space, 151 condominiums, 572 parking spaces, and a 20th-floor swimming pool.
  • Design changes as of summer 2006 include a 111-foot spire which will boost the overall height to 538 feet.
