It was purchased in 1965 by James Cox, who intended to use the building as part of an expansion of the Dayton Daily News newspaper. That plan never came to fruition and the building served as moderate-income apartments for many years.
A plan to renovate and reposition the apartments as the Schwind Flats was announced in 2004-2005, but that plan never came to fruition. The building remains vacant, except for the restaurant on the first floor.
