  • This was the tallest building in Kansas City when completed. The building features extensive terra cotta ornamentation and eagle sculpture by Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
  • Widely regarded as the first skyscraper of Kansas City, the New York Life Building has load-bearing walls of masonry and is faced with granite, brownstone, brick, and terra cotta.
  • Aquila Energy Corporation, an international company listed on NASDAQ, purchased this building for a headquarters location and did a complete renovation in 1992.
  • The building has state and federal historic status.
  • Although the corporate name was changed to Aquila in the early '90s, many local people still call it "MO-PUB," short for its former name, Missouri Public Service Gas and Energy Company.
