Formerly part of a resort complex on the far north side of Chicago. The accompanying hotel has been demolished, and the namesake beach was replaced by an extension of Lake Shore Drive and Lincoln Park.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the pink-walled structure is a highly recognizable landmark near the northern end of Lake Shore Drive.
The building is topped by a large rotunda with a flagpole. Its shape is called a "fourchee cross", with 4 bisected wings in an X formation.
When it opened the building was situated on a three-block beach promenade connecting it with the Edgewater Beach Hotel.
Former coach and owner of the Chicago Bears football team George Halas used to live in an apartment on the 18th floor of this building.
