Facts

  • Converted in 1997 to a dormitory for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
  • One of the earliest skyscrapers, the Chicago Building is a prime example of the Chicago School of Architecture and one of the few with its original cornice intact.
  • The two street facades exhibit the two typical window types of Chicago School architecture: the north side features projecting bay windows, and the east side features rectangular "Chicago windows" with movable sashes.
