Facts

  • The Worcester City Hall, face with grey milford granite, was designed in a Renaissance Revival style. The capanile tower is modeled on the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence.
  • A bronze star set in the sidewalk marks the spot where, on July 14, 1776, Isaiah Thomas read the Declaration of Independence for the first time to a New England audience.
  • On the interior, along the main stairway, hang the helmets and breastplates of two of Cromwell's soldiers who fell at the Battle of Worcester, England.
