Facts
- The building was originally 11 floors/124 feet. The top floors were added at a later date.
- Each December the building is bathed in blue light and a "Make a Wish" foundation logo climbs each floor as money is earned for the organization in a program called "Stories of Light".
- This building has several radio studios with street-level studios facing the intersection of Congress & Preble streets, earning the title of "the fishbowl" by passers-by.
- Although the upper two floors were added in 1962, it wasn't until 1986 that an effort was made to remodel the exterior of that portion of the building to coordinate it with the original structure.
- The large electronic signboard atop the building was installed in 1964 and last rennovated in 1999.
- In addition to the time, temperature, and WMTW news promotion the sign displays; the signboard atop the building notifies motorists when there is a parking ban in Portland.
- In the past, the building once featured a small shopping area on the first level.
- In early 2005, signage was added to the Congress Street entrance which refers to the building as the "Time and Temperature Building".
- WMTW-TV has studios in the building and had rights to the time and temperature signage on the roof between the early 2000's and 2010.
- For much of the early 2000s, WMTW-TV used images and video of the building and its distinctive features in many of its promotions. This was part of a promotional campaign to make the station appear more Portland-focused as the ownership began moving equipment closer to the city.
