• Designed in a sleek moderne style, it is faced with limestone above a base of polished black stone. Above the second floor is an open center court.
• Relief sculptures of eagles and emblems above the entrance symbolize the building's governmental function.
• The Detroit Federal Building is on the site of the former Fort Lernout, Fort Shelby, and the 1897 U. S. Post Office, Courthouse, and Custom House.
• Remnants of the 1897 Courthouse can be found in Room 733, the U. S. District Courtroom.
