• Walt Disney Imagineering redesigned both exterior and interior, cost US$4 million, resulting in the opening of the Encounter Restaurant in January 1997.
• About 900 tons of structural steel used in the building.
• Building designated by LA City Council as a Cultural and Historic Monument on December 18, 1992.
• The Theme Room restaurant operated 1961-1995.
• Designed by James Langenheim of Pereira & Luckman.
• The restaurant affords fine views of aircraft going about their business.
• The building's design was influenced by a landing spacecraft, in particular those in the 1953 movie 'The War of the Worlds'; architect William Pereira's brother Hal was art director on the movie.
